Permission to Pause

This last year has been nothing short of crazy. In between starting SheLift, moving halfway across the country, and falling in love with an adventure enthusiast who keeps my weekends booked with travel, it can be challenging finding time to pause and restore. Fortunately, one of SheLift’s pillars of practice – and my personal favorite – is self care. It’s literally a job requirement that I take time to rest.

Leading an active life packed full of discovery is what I’m all about, but I have learned the hard way that if I don't take the time to slow down and restore, I’m unable to climb higher, stretch deeper or wander further. I’m learning the importance of giving myself #PermissionToPause, especially after a particularly strenuous summer.

My boyfriend and I recently visited Telluride, CO, and hiked Wilson Peak, a grueling 17-mile Colorado 14er. The hike was hands down the hardest, most technical and emotionally challenging hike I’ve ever endured. After 15 hours on the trail, over 3,000’ in elevation gain and all four seasons experienced in one day, my body and spirit were WRECKED to say the least. Once the celebratory beers were drank and the pizza was indulged, I had one mission for the following days and it involved comfy clothes, leisurely strolls and major relaxation.

Trading in the hiking boots for some sandals and comfy cottons was exactly what I needed. So much in fact, I lived in Athleta for a few days straight… but who’s counting?! Having just put my body and mind through so much physical exertion, it felt incredible to veg-out in ultra lush, yet stylish pieces. Athleta’s new Restore collection is everything I need to remind myself it’s okay to take a few days off. Whether wandering the streets of Telluride, getting crafty in a cafe or cruising down alpine roads, hanging in my Restore items was the most comfortable I’d felt in days. #PowerofShe #PermissionToPause. This restorative experience was made possible thanks to by Athleta.
